The new mission comes amid increasing worry about the nation's susceptibility to online disruptions and cyber-attacks.
Recent incidents have highlighted these weaknesses, including a major outage affecting worldwide digital services and fresh digital assaults that halted manufacturing at significant plants and distribution networks across multiple companies.

A former commander of the the nation's space operations center will report back next month on how the publicly-supported center can most effectively assist the scale of government AI ambitions in national security, national security and intelligence.
Organizational Refocusing
The organization's leader, a former Amazon UK boss, confirmed that 78 different research projects at the 440-staff institute have been terminated, spun out or completed because they do not align with the new direction.
