Antony Price, Famed for Designing for David Bowie and Duran Duran, Has Died Aged 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the groundbreaking British fashion designer behind many legendary styles worn by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at the age of 80.
He was celebrated for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, most notably the pastel suits that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's classic music video for "the song Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
This news arrives shortly after he unveiled his most recent collection in London, his first in more than 30 years. Artist Lily Allen showcased a dress that paid homage to the famous black velvet "revenge dress" made famous by Diana, Princess of Wales.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price headed for London during the sixties to attend the renowned Royal College of Art.
Shortly after his graduation, he started his work in menswear at Stirling Copper and was the creator of the body-hugging, buttoned trousers that rock legend Mick Jagger famously wore during the band's "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He established his eponymous line in 1979 and presented his inaugural collection a year later. The show was launched by outfits on model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the wedding dress Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A long-time collaborator of the late David Bowie, Price created the memorable jacket the star wore for his "As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His trademark skill to blend menswear and womenswear along with his expert craftsmanship in crafting form-fitting garments established him as a "true original," according to the British Fashion Council.
During the nineties, he started creating outfits for Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, including several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.
With a vocation that covered over fifty years, Price presented his final runway show in London recently in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.

- Performative Style: Defining an era of music fashion.
- Genre-Blending Design: Merging menswear with womenswear.
- Working with Stars and Royalty: Spanning iconic musicians and members of the royal family.
The fashion world laments the passing to a genuine innovator whose legacy on the visual landscape of music remains deeply ingrained.
