Arne Slot Maintains He Feels Safe and Has Liverpool's Support After PSV Defeat
The Liverpool head coach conceded that it was expected for doubts to be raised about his future after another convincing defeat against the Dutch champions.
Liverpool endured their 9th loss in 12 games, marking the team's worst run after being demoted in 1953-54.
They were taken apart by the Eredivisie title holders on a difficult evening at their home ground.
“I feel secure, I am OK, I have got significant backing from above,” Slot commented.
“It would be nice to reverse this trend and get a victory obviously but when you're in a managerial role and not doing well then it's expected that questions are asked.”
He added, “I accept my role. This isn't the initial instance I’ve been in a difficult position but it is about time that we turned it around.”
Discussions with Club Management
Upon being questioned to elaborate on his dialogues with the Liverpool hierarchy, the head coach revealed:
“We communicate frequently. They assist for the squad and for me and those talks happen but they aren't calling me constantly each day to say they back me.”
He further stated, “In the normal exchanges I perceive the belief. But I haven’t spoken to them since this defeat yet so it remains to be seen.”
Persistent Problems and Player Response
Slot highlighted recurring weaknesses from his squad in their Champions League loss, specifically missed opportunities and defensive lapses.
Meanwhile, midfielder Curtis Jones was blunter in his evaluation of the club’s predicament.
“I don’t have the answers. Honestly, I don’t. I’m saying that to everybody,” the midfielder stated.
“It's simply not good enough. I don't need to wait to reflect. I'm beyond being angry internally. I've reached the stage now where I just don’t have the vocabulary.”
He continued, “It’s hard because I’m playing for the club I love. I support them, and I've watched Liverpool all my life.”
“In a long, long time, I've not seen a Liverpool team going through a period of this nature with performances this poor.”
Jones finished, “But we continue to wear the emblem on our chest. And as long as it is gone, we will always fight.”
“We will attempt to help the side return to its rightful place, prove once more what this club is about and why it's known as the best team in the world.”
“At this moment, things are bad and it must improve.”
