One of the original creators behind the well-known frozen dessert company Ben and Jerry's has claimed how corporate owner the multinational conglomerate prevented the introduction for an innovative Palestine-themed frozen dessert product.

Ben Cohen, that co-founded the company with Jerry Greenfield, announced how he plans to independently develop this new flavor as part of a personal collection highlighting issues the company was prevented from addressing publicly.

Longstanding Dispute Between Founders and Parent Company

The recent development escalates the ongoing conflict between the internationally recognized dessert company and its corporate parent, the British consumer goods corporation which acquired the ice cream brand since 2000.

The co-founders maintain that the parent company and their ice cream division the Magnum brand improperly prevented Ben & Jerry's against "maintaining its activist principles".

Watermelon Sorbet becoming an Emblem of Support

The entrepreneur stated via an Instagram video that he's developing a new watermelon-flavored sorbet, asking for consumer ideas regarding the product's name and additional components.

“I'm doing what they couldn't,” Mr. Cohen stated from his kitchen. “I'm creating a watermelon-based frozen dessert that advocates for lasting ceasefire in Palestine and calls for repairing the damage that occurred in the region.”

This particular fruit has emerged as an emblem of support for Palestinians due to its colors, that mirror those of the Palestinian flag – the distinctive four-color pattern.

Historical Social Engagement and Recent Developments

Several years ago, the ice cream company refused to sell its products in areas under Israeli control, resulting in the parent company transferring their Israel business over to a local licensee, thereby permitting continued sales within the occupied West Bank.

This upcoming dessert series will be created through Mr. Cohen's personal brand, the activist dessert company that was first created several years back for endorsing former US presidential candidate Senator Sanders with the product "Bernie's Back".

Leadership Shifts and Upcoming Plans

The founder revealed how he will create other frozen dessert varieties focusing on concerns which Ben & Jerry's was prevented from addressing publicly due to Unilever.

This development follows partner Mr. Greenfield stepped down his position at Ben & Jerry's in September, after decades of involvement, citing worries that its independence had been undermined after corporate moves to curb their advocacy work.

Previously, Ben Cohen remarked that "Jerry has a really big heart and the ongoing dispute with Unilever was deeply distressing him."

“My conscience compels me to keep working within the organization to fight for its independence ensuring that it can achieve its ethical purpose, the principles that it was founded on while upholding for over 40 years," he told media outlets.
