Canada's Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Meeting Versus the Dodgers
The outfielder was instrumental for the Houston Astros securing the World Series in 2017.
The Toronto Blue Jays reached their first Fall Classic since 1993 by defeating the Seattle Mariners in the decisive Game 7 of the American League Championship Series.
Trailing 3-1, Springer smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the only Canadian franchise in MLB to a four games to three win in the best-of-seven series. Awaiting them are the Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for our team, our city, Canada," Springer stated, a key player of the Houston Astros team that secured the 2017 title. "It's truly an unbelievable moment."
George Springer has now connected for twenty-three playoff homers, making him third on the list trailing only Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"There's probably not another player on planet Earth that I'd prefer in that moment other than Springer with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.
The Mariners, who had led the series 2-0 and 3-2, remain the only MLB franchise that has never reached in a World Series.
Wilson said "without a doubt that it's going to sting" following his side's defeat at Rogers Centre, but applauded their efforts this season.
"They're an exceptional squad. Unfortunately that we finished on the wrong side of the series," he added.
The Blue Jays secured the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and 1993, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on the upcoming Friday.
