Los Angeles experienced citywide celebrations after the Dodgers won a thrilling seven-game World Series title. Fans across the globe united with Angelenos in jubilation, marking the initial time in a quarter-century that a team has achieved consecutive championships.
Victory Parade Attracts Massive Crowds
Local events featured a downtown parade on Monday morning, a reserved-seating event at the team's home stadium, and spontaneous parties throughout the city.
Social media videos show thousands of Los Angeles residents packing city center avenues, many displaying homemade signs and team flags. The squad was seen riding high on a double-decker bus through the masses, hoisting the Commissioner’s trophy high.
“I’m already thinking about the third time we’re going to achieve this,” Shohei Ohtani remarked through an interpreter.
The parade route concluded at the stadium, where the team walked out to Kendrick Lamar’s “Not Like Us,” with DJ Mustard providing music and Ice Cube driving a Pacific blue classic car around the stadium’s outfield.
Early Celebrations and Athlete Responses
Festivities began well before the procession, with supporters lighting fireworks in the roads of the city center on Sunday night.
Yoshinobu Yamamoto, awarded the MVP of the championship, commented directly about the victory.
“Losing is not an option,” he said. “I adore this team. This city means everything to me.”
Mixed Reactions and City Unity
In contrast, Mark Walter was met with a less warm welcome at the celebration. Video footage from the event appear to show him taking the stage to a combination of cheers and jeers, with jeers interrupting his speech.
The World Series served as a bright spot in what has been a challenging year for the city. An approximate 225,000 people attended to the championship parade last year, and according to team member Freddie Freeman, fans this year showed equal or greater enthusiasm.
“I feel like it’s nearly twice from last year,” he said. “These fans are crazy. It’s so awesome to be a part of this.”
