President Trump Invites Relatives of Shot Military Members to White House
President Trump stated on Sunday that he has invited the relatives of a Guard member tragically killed last week to come to the presidential home.
He mentioned that he conversed with her parents and they were “deeply grieving”.
Background on the Tragic Shooting
Soldier Sarah Beckstrom, twenty years old, was lost her life in a shooting on Wednesday in the nation's capital.
Her comrade, Staff Sgt Andrew Wolfe, 24, is still in the hospital in grave state.
Vigils across the state have occurred in their remembrance.
Presidential Invitation
The commander-in-chief said he’s discussed a meeting at the presidential residence for the parents of both soldiers of the West Virginia National Guard.
“I told them: ‘When you’re prepared, because that’s a difficult moment, visit the White House. We’re going to recognize her,” Trump addressed the press. “And in the same way with Andrew, no matter the outcome.”
Community Reaction
Community members gathered over the past few days at Webster County high school in West Virginia to pay respects to Sarah.
Both the soldiers had been fulfilling duties with the West Virginia National Guard as part of the president’s federal initiative to assist policing efforts in Washington DC.
Remembering Sarah Beckstrom
“She was the kind of student that educators desired. She behaved with inner fortitude, a contagious smile and a upbeat demeanor that inspired those around her,” Jarrod Hankins, the leader of her previous school, told the media. “She was sweet, considerate and always willing to assist people.”
Memorial arrangements for Beckstrom are in the process of planning.
Judicial Actions and Policy Changes
Authorities have indicted a twenty-nine-year-old suspect with a charge of murder and two counts of violent assault while armed.
The event prompted the government to suspend asylum applications and temporarily stop providing visas to holders of Afghan passports.
Condition of the Airman
Wolfe, a resident of Martinsburg, started his military career in February 2019 and is a 2019 graduate of Musselman High, as reported by the AP.
He continues to receive treatment and is “in a critical fight”, the state’s governor the governor mentioned on television.
The state’s top lawyer the attorney general informed a news show that she planned to meet with Wolfe’s family.
Memory of the Fallen Soldier
Beckstrom, from Summersville, graduated from Webster County High in mid-2023 and enlisted soon after, serving as a MP with honor, as stated by the state guard.
“She had a lot of goodness and she absolutely had courage,” he told the audience at the service. “Though her life lasted far too short, she has left a mark that’s going to endure.”
