This Swine Life: Pig Named 6-7 Spared by Miami-Dade Leader.

Although not quite at the equivalent scale as sparing Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade had her own ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a pig named Six Seven.

Daniella Levine Cava carried out the annual tradition at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.

“The swine has done no wrong. She is worthy of this pardon. Her criminal record is spotless,” Levine Cava said in a speech with clear references to the vast quantity of pardons issued since the commencement of a second term in office.

“If we disregard eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future free from concern.”

This ceremony, either celebrating or rejecting the region’s Hispanic tradition of consuming swine during the holidays, was established to replicate the yearly bird sparing at the White House.

The swine, contributed by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often seemingly at random. The phrase became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its annual vocabulary selection.

A Future Secured

The pardoned swine is now scheduled to spend its days at a countryside refuge “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the organizers' announcement.

“The annual pig pardon has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the end-of-year celebrations,” said the event host, in a notably cheerful message.

“It embodies the spirit of Miami: vibrant, varied, and grounded in customs that bring people together. Every time, we are proud to celebrate culture and compassion in a way only Miami can.”

Guests enjoyed a vegetarian menu of spinach fritters and cafecito as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
